Will They Remember You? — Leadership Research Initiative
Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you participate in the Will They Remember You? research initiative, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. Please read it carefully before submitting a response.
Who We Are
Will They Remember You? is an independent leadership research initiative. We are not affiliated with any employer, staffing agency, or commercial organisation. Our sole purpose is to gather and analyse participant perspectives on memorable leadership qualities.
What Information We Collect
When you complete the challenge, we collect the following information:
- Three leadership characteristics you associate with the most memorable leader in your life (required)
- The type of leader you are describing, chosen from a provided list (optional)
- The country you are participating from (optional)
- The approximate year you first met or began working with the leader (optional)
- The industry you work in (optional)
- Your IP address (collected automatically at the time of submission for research integrity purposes — see below)
- Your first name (optional)
- Your email address (optional)
- An open-ended story about your memorable leader (optional)
- Your explicit consent to publish your story publicly, if you choose to share one (optional)
How We Use Your Information
We use the information you provide solely for the purposes of this research initiative:
- To compile and analyse aggregated rankings of leadership characteristics across all participants, and to share those findings through presentations, publications, research briefings, educational programs, and organizational consulting engagements. Individual submissions and personal information are not sold or shared for commercial marketing purposes.
- To display anonymised or consented stories on The Stories page, where you have explicitly granted publication consent
- To understand patterns in how people describe memorable leaders across different contexts
- To detect and review potential duplicate submissions for research integrity purposes. Your IP address is used solely to identify submissions that may originate from the same source within a short time window. It is never shared publicly, never used for tracking, and is only accessible to the research administrator.
- We do not use your information for advertising, marketing, or any commercial purpose
Aggregated Research Results
The Top 10 rankings and related research outputs are derived from aggregated, anonymised data. Individual responses are never identified in published results. Rankings reflect the collective patterns across all participants, not any single submission.
Optional Stories and Publication Consent
Sharing a story about your memorable leader is entirely optional. If you choose to share a story, you will be asked a separate, explicit question about whether you consent to having it published on The Stories page. Your story will only appear publicly if you actively select that consent option. You may submit your three characteristics without sharing a story at all, and you may share a story without consenting to its publication.
Your Name and Email Address
Providing your name and email address is optional. If provided, your name may be used to attribute a published story (first name only). Your email address is used only if you contact us about your submission and is never shared with third parties or used for marketing communications.
Data Storage and Security
Submissions are stored in a secure database. We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information from unauthorised access. IP addresses are stored alongside submissions and are accessible only to the research administrator — they are never exposed in public rankings, stories, or APIs. We retain submission data, including IP addresses, for the duration of the research initiative. If you request deletion of your submission, we will action that request promptly, including the associated IP address record.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request access to the information you submitted
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your submission from our database
- Withdraw consent for publication of your story at any time
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the email address below. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.
Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their own purposes. We may use trusted service providers to host and operate this website, who are bound by confidentiality obligations.
Participation Age Requirement
This research initiative is intended for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe a minor has submitted a response, please contact us and we will remove it promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued participation after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
